OMP came into being when its founders discovered they were unable to carry out reliable market research online after being commissioned to carry out a major global online research project. CEO Rick Wilson, was struck by a marked lack of research knowledge regarding survey methods and sampling among net survey promoters. He found many times online researchers were not research professionals but business consultants who used research.

This led the founders to undertake an extensive investigation of the many techniques being used around the world by leading net survey practitioners. From their investigations they kept the best practices and discarded the rest. That was the starting point for the engineering of the OMP Survey System.

Rick Wilson is a marketing psychologist with 30 years experience in market research. He pioneered the development of mail and telephone survey research in Australia during the late1970’s. By 1982 he operated the largest single location market research telephone interviewing site in Australia. At the beginning of the early 90's, this operation held the largest single location CATI (Computer assisted telephone interviewing) site in Australia and the engine behind the highly regarded MLI - Australia's first Single Source Media and Market Survey. Rick Wilson has designed many of the largest mail surveys carried out in Australia achieving response rates of 50% on general population samples and over 65% with specific target groups.

Many of the research techniques and methodologies regularly used in Australian market research and pioneered by Rick Wilson, form the basis for the OMP research platform. From the groundbreaking Age 4D Lifestyle survey in 1975 to Australia's first Farmer Panel of more than 50,000 farmers during the '80's, followed by the groundbreaking MLI Single Source Surveys of the 90's, Wilson has introduced new research techniques to the Australian market with great success. Now with the latest research medium - the online survey, once again he has developed a highly effective approach for achieving good quality, reliable and accurate data.
